This series in A4 format continues the previous publications of the Commission for Byzantine Studies and publications of the Commission for the Tabula Imperii Byzantini with the establishment of the Institute for Byzantine Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the subsequent Department of Byzantine Studies. The series includes both monographic studies and proceedings.
Some works, in multi-volume sub-series, are among the foundational publications for Byzantine Studies, including the prosopography of the Palaiologian period (12 volumes with 2 volumes addenda, combined in one CD-ROM edition), the lexicon on Byzantine Greek (8 volumes), the lexicon of the Greek copyists 800-1600 (3 volumes), the Byzantine lead seals in Austria (2 volumes so far) and Byzantine epigrams in written tradition (4 volumes).
This series features a broad spectrum of research on historical, philological, geographical and art historical questions.
