Grigory Kessel
is Senior Academy Scientist at the Department of Byzantine Research, Institute for Medieval Research, Austrian Academy of Sciences
Grigory Kessel obtained his Doctoral degree from the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and his PhD from the Radboud University in Nijmegen. He worked as research associate at the Marburg University and at the University of Manchester. His research focusses on the literary heritage of Syriac Christianity with particular attention to the manuscripts. He participated in several cataloguing projects, including the Sinai Palimpsests Project and that of the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library. He was a research fellow at the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library, member at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and a holder of the ERC Starting Grant leading the project ‘HUNAYNNET: Transmission of Classical Scientific and Philosophical Literature from Greek into Syriac and Arabic’ based at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
