The international and interdisciplinary journal “Egypt and the Levant”, which comes out once a year in print and online, was founded in 1990 by Manfred Bietak in order to provide a platform for research into the cultural contacts between Egypt and its neighbours and into the Egyptian-Canaanite hybrid culture that was uncovered during the Austrian excavations in Tell el-Dab’a. The topics covered by the journal include reports on archaeological excavations in Egypt and the entire Middle East, including Sudan, as well as articles on all aspects of the archaeology, historical and cultural sciences relating to Egypt and the Middle East. The focus is on the Pharaonic era, but articles on both the pre- and early history of the aforementioned regions and on post-pharaonic antiquity are also possible, as well as contributions on topics from the natural sciences.
