The focus of the present study lies on the ancient theatre architecture. The purpose is to study and better understand the invention and the development of the architectural type of the Greek and Roman theatre from the beginning in archaic times until the end of the Roman Empire. This publication introduces two so far unpublished friezes (A1 and A2) from the excavations in the Basilica on the so called Staatsmarkt in Ephesos in the sixties and seventies of the 20th century. These two friezes are made up of terracotta plaques which belong to second half of the 1st BC. On top of both friezes are ionic Kymatia.
