Waldemar Zacharasiewicz
is Professor emeritus of American Studies at Vienna University
Waldemar Zacharasiewicz, born in Graz in 1942, where he studied English and German. He, was professor of American Studies at Vienna University between 1974 and 2010, and director of the Canadian Studies Centre until 2014. A full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, he is also a member of Academia Europaea and an International Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He published a study of the development of the theory of climate in English literature and literary criticism in 1977. His main research interests since then have been travel literature and imagology, transatlantic migration and the literatures of the American South and Canada. Among his many publications are two monographs on Images of Germany in American literature, a book entitled Imagology Revisited and a study of the perception of Vienna and Austria between the 1920s and the 1950s.
