is Professor emeritus of American Studies, Univ. of Vienna; full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
Waldemar Zacharasiewicz, after studies at the U. of Graz, in Birmingham and Oxford and the habilitation in English philology, he served as professor of North American Studies at the U. of Vienna from 1974 until 2010, where he was also the Director of the Canadian Studies Centre until 2014. He has an honorary doctorate from Eötvös Lorand U. and is an International Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His main research interests have been the literatures of the American South and Canada, transatlantic cultural exchanges, travel literature and imagology. His most recent monograph is "Transatlantic Networks and the Perception and Representation of Vienna and Austria between the 1920s and 1950s"(2018). He has recently co-edited two collections of essays, "Religion in the Secular Age" (Berlin, 2023) and "Artificial Intelligence and Human Enhancement" (Berlin, 2022).
