Die beiden byzantinischen Kommentare zum Großen Kanon des Andreas von Kreta

Die beiden byzantinischen Kommentare zum Großen Kanon des Andreas von Kreta
Eine quellenkritische und literaturhistorische Studie
1. Auflage, 2007
Hymns represent an important aspect of the hagiographic literature and of the cult of saints in Byzantium. In the Late Byzantine era there already existed hymns on the most important saints' feasts, preserved in the Menaia, for every day of the liturgical year. Nonetheless, new hymns were still composed on both new and old saints. Hymnography was part of the literary production of the Late Byzantine era; however, hardly any notice has been taken of it so far. The present study provides an analysis and a critical edition of the eleven liturgical canons (Codex Chalk. S. Trin. 64) of Theoktistos Studites on his elder contemporary, the famous and notorious Patriarch Athanasios Ist of Constantinople (1289-1293 and 1303-1309).
