Das ‘Carnuntum Jahrbuch. Zeitschrift für Archäologie und Kulturgeschichte des Donauraumes‘ versteht sich als das wissenschaftliche Forum zur Vorlage von Grabungs-, Fund- und Forschungsberichten aus Carnuntum und seinem Einzugsgebiet. Darüber hinaus bietet die Zeitschrift die Möglichkeit zur Publikation von aktuellen Forschungen auf dem Gebiet der Archäologie und Kulturgeschichte des gesamten Donauraumes.
Den Auftakt des aktuellen Bandes (2021) macht im Abschnitt „Beiträge“ ein Artikel von H. Lehenbauer, der sich der Frage widmet, nach welchem Konzept die römische Wachturmkette am Limes angelegt wurde und inwiefern sich mit Unterstützung von GIS-Systemen bislang unentdeckte Militärposten ausfindig machen lassen. Der Beitrag des Zahnmediziners A. Eder wendet sich schließlich zwei zahnförmigen Objekten zu, die vom rätischen Limes bzw. aus Carnuntum stammen, wobei für das Carnuntiner Zahnmodell eine Deutung als Votivgabe vorgeschlagen wird.
Der Abschnitt „Ausgrabungen und Funde“ enthält zwei umfangreiche Abhandlungen zu Keramikfunden auf Carnuntiner Gebiet: Zum einen bespricht I. Berger-Pavić ausführlich die Rätische Glanztonware, eine dünnwandige, qualitativ sehr hochwertige Gefäßkeramik, zum anderen legt S. Stökl eine eingehende Analyse von Gesichtsgefäßen aus Carnuntum vor. Beide keramischen Beiträge werden durch entsprechende naturwissenschaftliche Analysen von R. Sauer, M. Daszkiewicz sowie G. Schneider ergänzt.

In this article I will give a proof of concept for the use of GIS analyses in the process of identifying new Roman watchtower positions. The article could be seen as a case study and I have shown that there are good chances of finding new, as yet only hypothetically postulated Roman military installations at the positions noted in the article. It should be pointed out that before further investigations can be undertaken, there is a need to enclose the area of interest.

Eine angebliche Zahnprothese und ein Zahnmodell vom rätischen Limes und aus Carnuntum
This study investigates the question of what two Roman finds from the Upper German-Raetian Limes and Carnuntum can add to our knowledge about the history of dental medicine. Our investigations have revealed that the southern German find was previously incorrectly interpreted, whilst that from Carnuntum should be accorded greater importance as a possible tooth votive offering.

Rätische Ware und Verwandtes aus Carnuntum und seinem Suburbium. Funde aus dem Altbestand und den Grabungen in der Zivilstadt. Mit Beiträgen von Roman Sauer (mineralogisch-petrographische Analysen) sowie Małgorzata Daszkiewicz und Gerwulf Schneider (chemische Analysen)
Ca. 274 vessels of Raetian Ware, coming from excavations of the civilian town of Carnuntum and its suburbium
as well as from the Collection of the Lower Austrian State Department, were examined and classified in two major groups based on their (presumed) provenance: Group I.1–8 – of Raetian origin, Group II.1–6 – of Pannonian origin. The Raetian group I mostly consists of products from pottery workshops situated in the Westraetian region like Faimingen, Aschberg and Günzburg. In the Pannonian group, the majority of the materials are apparently products from Savarian workshop/s (Group II.1). For 25 fragments, mineralogical and/or X-ray fluorescence analyses were carried out by Roman Sauer and Ma³gorzata Daszkiewicz with Gerwulf Schneider.

Gesichtsgefäße aus Carnuntum – eine Gefäßgruppe im norisch-pannonischen Kontext. Mit einem Anhang von Roman Sauer
This article deals with the vessels decorated with faces that have been discovered in various residential and storage areas within Carnuntum. The majority were found in civilian contexts, with only one exemplar deriving from a clearly sepulchral context. Classification into possible original use contexts has been undertaken with reference to the finds from nearby Vindobona, which, in terms of numbers, constitute the vast majority of such finds, the emphasis being on the apotropaic connotation and possible association with fire of this group of vessels.
