Johannes Schneider
is Professor of Indology at the LMU Munich and works at the Tibetan dictionary project of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences
Johannes Schneider, born in 1964, studied Indology, Tibetology and Comparative Religion in Marburg. In 1994, after receiving his doctorate, he moved to Free University in Berlin, and in 1999 to Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich; since 2003, he has worked for the Tibetan Dictionary project of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. In 2014 he was appointed extracurricular professor of Indology in Munich. His main research interests are Indo-Tibetan philology, Buddhist literature, Sanskrit poetry and poetics, and history of Sanskrit studies.
