is Full Professor of Byzantine Philology and History of Byzantine Christianity at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice
Antonio Rigo (Treviso, 1958) is Full Professor of Byzantine Philology and History of Byzantine Christianity at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice. Following undergraduate studies in Venice, a doctorate in Bologna and post-doctoral scholarships in Naples and Venice, he was appointed Full Professor of Byzantine History at the University of Basilicata (1994–2001) and, from 2001, at the Ca' Foscari University. His research engages with the literature and religious history of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods, and in particular with the ascetic-spiritual texts, heretical and dissident movements, and theological controversies of the 14th century.
