Ernst Prets

is a former Research Fellow at the Institute for the Cultural and Intellectual History of Asia, Austrian Academy of Sciences

Ernst Prets studied Indology, Buddhist Studies, Ethnology, and Philosophy at the University of Vienna. He was a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Cultural and Intellectual History of Asia of the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 1983, initially as part of the long-term project "Dictionary of Indian Epistemology and Logic". Since 2015 he directed the projects "Fragments of Indian Philosophy" and "Debate and Rational Argumentation in Buddhism of South Asia". Since his retirement in 2020, he has continued his association with the Institute as a guest researcher.
