Ioannis D. Polemis
is Professor of Byzantine Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece
I. Polemis is currently professor of Byzantine Literature at the Athens University. Except for his book on Theophanes of Nicaea (Theophanes of Nicaea: His Life and Works, Wiener Byzantinistische Studien XX), Wien 1996), he has published several works of Theodore Metochites, a scholar of the early XIV c. His other books include a monograph on Theodore Dexios (Theodori Dexii, Opera omnia, Corpus Christianorum. Series Graeca 55, Turnhout-Leuven 2003), and an edition of several texts dealing with the Palamite controversy (Theologica Varia Inedita saeculi XIV, Corpus Christianorum Series Graeca 76, Turnhout 2012). In 2014 his edition of the funeral orations of Michael Psellos (Michael Pselli, Orationes funebres, vol. I, (Bibliotheca scriptorum Graecorum et Romanorum Teubneriana, Berlin/Boston 2014) came out. He has also published two volumes (text and translation) containing the Poems of Theodore Metochites (Theodori Metochitae Carmina, Corpus Christianorum Series Graeca 83, Turnhout 1916), as well as an edition of Metochites’ orations (with Eleni Kaltsogianni, Theodorus Metochites, Orationes, Bibliotheca scriptorum Graecorum et Romanorum Teubneriana, Berlin/Boston 2019).
