is Director of the Final Publication Project of the Al Hiba Excavations and Director of the Lagash Archaeological Project
Holly Pittman is Professor of the Art and Archaeology of Mesopotamia and Iran at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also Curator in the Near East Section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. She studied with Dr. Edith Porada in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University, writing a dissertation on the “Glazed Steatite Glyptic Style: The Structure and Function of an Image System”. She has excavated throughout the Middle East since 1972 including projects in Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. Pittman has written extensively on the art and archaeology of the ancient Near East. Her current research interest focuses on Bronze Age in Iraq and Iran. Currently she directs the Final Publication Project for excavations at Tell al-Hiba, and is Director of the Lagash Archaeological Project having its first season in 2019-2020.
