Ludwig Paul
is Professor of Iranian Studies at the University of Hamburg
Ludwig Paul, born 1963 in Munich, studied Iranology and Linguistics in Bonn, Göttingen and Tehran, and received his PhD in 1995 with a grammar of the Iranian language Zazaki. After that, he spent one year in Jerusalem, and then became Assistant Professor in Göttingen, where he completed his Habilitation on Early Judeo-Persian in 2002. In 2004, he was appointed Professor of Iranian Studies in Hamburg, and since then he has worked mainly on the history of Persian and on West Iranian dialectology. In 2022, he became a Full Member of the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature.
