Andreas Kaplony
is Director of the Arabic Papyrology Database at Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich
Andreas Kaplony, born 1960 in Heidelberg, studied General History, Arabic Language and Literature as well as Philosophy, wrote his PhD on Early Muslim-Byzantine diplomacy (1994) and did his Habilitation in Islamic Studies on the Haram of Jerusalem (2000) at Zurich University. He was assistant in Ancient History at Zurich University (1986–1990) and in Islamic Studies at Berne University (1990–1995). He had a number of research grants, was Assistant Professor for Islamic Studies at Zurich University (2004–2010) and since 2011 has been Chair of Arabic and Islamic Studies at LMU Munich. He is Director of the Arabic Papyrology Database and mostly works on Arabic documents.
