Hermann Hunger
is retired Professor at the Department of Near Eastern Studies, University of Vienna
Hermann Hunger, born 1942 in Bautzen (Germany) studied Assyriology and Arabic at the universities of Vienna, Heidelberg and Münster, from where he received his Ph.D. in Assyriology. He was assistant at the Baghdad branch of the German Archaeological Institute and research associate for the project "Assyrian Dictionary" of the University of Chicago. After his Habilitation in 1974 he was assistant at the Institut für Orientalistik of the University of Vienna. From 1976 to 1978 he was associate professor at the University of Chicago and afterwards professor at the Institut für Orientalistik, from where he retired in 2007. Research interests: Babylonian literature, astronomical cuneiform texts.
