Das 19. Symposion der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Griechische und Hellenistische Rechtsgeschichte fand vom 26. bis 29. August 2013 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, statt. Es wurden 15 Referate gehalten, und zu jedem Referat wurde die Diskussion durch Antworten eröffnet. Die Beiträge und Antworten sind in diesem Band gesammelt. Sie beginnen mit einem umfassenden Blick auf das griechische Recht insgesamt, gefolgt vom archaischen kretischen Recht, dem Recht des klassischen Athen, epigraphischen Zeugnissen aus anderen Poleis der hellenistischen und römischen Zeit, juristischen Papyri und dem Recht in der späteren griechischen Literatur. Das Symposion fördert die Zusammenarbeit von Rechtshistorikern mit denjenigen, die sich mit allen Aspekten des klassischen Altertums befassen, und ermöglicht den Teilnehmern eine freie Wahl der Themen aus ihren aktuellen Forschungsgebieten. The 19th Symposion of the International Society for Greek and Hellenistic Legal History took place in Cambridge MA, August 26–29, 2013. 15 papers were presented, and respondents opened the discussion about every paper. The papers and responses are collected in this volume. They begin with broad looks at Greek law overall, followed by archaic Cretan law, the law of classical Athens, epigraphic evidence from other poleis of Hellenistic and Roman times, legal papyri, and law in later Greek literature. The Symposion supports the cooperation of legal historians with those studying all aspects of Classical Antiquity allowing the participants a free choice of topics from their current areas of research.

Die von Hans Julius Wolff gegründete Gesellschaft für griechische und hellenistische Rechtsgeschichte veranstaltet alle zwei Jahre „Symposien“. Es trifft sich ein kleiner Kreis von Rechtshistorikern, Althistorikern, Klassischen Philologen, Epigraphikern und Papyrologen, die jeweils die Ergebnisse ihrer neuesten Forschung vortragen und zur Diskussion stellen. Ein Generalthema ist nicht vorgesehen, doch kristallisieren sich unter den zwei zeitlich geordneten Rubriken jeweils thematische Schwerpunkte heraus. Every two years, the Society for Greek and Hellenistic Legal History, founded by Hans Julius Wolff, convenes a symposium that gathers a small circle of legal historians, ancient historians, classical philologists, epigraphers and papyrologists who present the results of their most recent work for discussion. No overall theme is stipulated, but the papers always group themselves into two general chronological periods.
