Sophie Cluzan
is General Curator for the Near Eastern Department of the Louvre Museum, Paris
Sophie Cluzan was trained in Near Eastern Archaeology as well as in Arabic Classical Language. After her diploma at Ecole du Louvre in 1981, at Sorbonne Paris I in 1987 and at the National Institute for Oriental Languages, she entered the Near Eastern Department of the Louvre Museum in 1987 as a scientific collaborator. She became a National Curator for Heritage in 1995 after having succeeded the national competitive special examination for Curators. Since 1997 she has been teaching at Ecole du Louvre and became head of several international programs for museums and heritage in Lebanon and Syria. She is also head of the Syro-French Archaeological Mission of Tulul el-Far, Tell Taouil and Tell el-Kharaze, three sites from Early Bronze Age to Roman periods. She curated several exhibitions for the Louvre, the Arab World Institute in Paris, as well as in Syria, Lebanon, Belgium, and at Strasbourg.
