Schubert Adrast

Schubert Adrast
Einzelnummern und Entwürfe zu einer Oper D 137
1. Auflage, 2012
This CD features the first complete recording of Franz Schubert's opera project Adrast (D. 137). Around the turn of the year 1819, Schubert composed 13 movements of a libretto by Johann Baptist Mayrhofer that was based on Herodotus' Histories. A new scholarly edition of the eight completed movements and the five drafts and draft fragments has only recently been made available in the Neue Schubert-Ausgabe. Its editor—musicologist and conductor Mario Aschauer—now presents the results of his extensive research on Schubert's original manuscripts as an audio CD containing the live recording of the first complete performance of Adrast with the extremely successful young ensemble Harmony of Nations (on period instruments). Furthermore, listeners can learn about Schubert's working procedures from the performance of selected examples from the composer's draft manuscript, of which a number of pages is reproduced as facsimiles in the colorful booklet. The CD series “Klingende Forschung” is a cooperation between the Commission for Music Research and the Austrian Audiovisual Research Archive of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
