ÖAW
Journal of Music Archaeology, Volume 2
The second issue covers topics ranging from Europe to pre-Columbian America and Southern China, from prehistoric to modern times, covering musical expressions of both human and non-human races. Musical tools from various materials are discussed, including reed, clay, metal, and bone, while the cultural meaning of others is assessed from pictorial sources. Besides more traditional approaches, contributions avail themselves of the methodologies of experimental archaeology, numerical modelling and psychological evaluation.
