Die Ortsnamen der Politschen Bezirke Perg und Freistadt (Östliches Mühlviertel)

The aim of the “Book of Place Names of the Province of Upper Austria” is to investigate in onomastic and linguistic terms all the official place names of Upper Austria in 11 volumes structured according to the political districts of the Province. In order to maintain the settlement history connections, the individual place names within the judicial districts are arranged according to the position of the community from west to east and from south to north. The present 11th volume deals with the districts of Perg and Freistadt. The local dialect pronounciation and the documentary evidence since the Middle Ages are presented for each of the official place names. They form the sources for the scientific analysis according to German or Slav origin, formation, etymology and phonetic and formal development. A number of indexes assist the rapid finding of the place names and their elements, while maps show the geographic distribution of frequent place name types.
