This corpus, a collection of Byzantine historical sources, is an international project for the creation of editions in which Vienna Byzantine research takes part with the Series Vindobonensis. It includes editions generated in projects in Vienna as well as externally. For example, the critical editions with translation of the research focus Register of the Patriarchate of Constantinople (14th century) are published in this series.
The Vienna series includes, among others, two foundational works of Byzantine Studies: the so called Byzantine “small chronicles” (with translation and commentary) and the Book of Eparch by Emperor Leon VI.
In addition to an introduction to the work and its textual tradition, each volume contains a critical edition with translation and (short) commentary.
The current status of the publications is announced annually in the Journal of Byzantine Studies (JOEB) / Jahrbuch der Österreichischen Byzantinistik.
