Polen in Wien

Polen in Wien
Entwicklung, Strukturmerkmale und Interaktionsmuster
1. Auflage, 2004
The goal of the study was an analysis of the determinants, the contextual terms and the structural features of the Polish migration to Vienna. Above all, the changes that occurred between 1993 and 2002 are compared. The integration of the Polish migrants into the work and housing markets, questions of identity and perspectives in the future as well as the function and influence of the Polish network in Vienna are particularly expounded upon. In addition, the question was asked which traits distinguish the Polish immigration from the guest worker immigration of the 1960s and 1970s. This publication attempts not only to portray the current status of Polish migration to Vienna and the Viennese “Polonia”, but also looks to the future and comes to the conclusion that Poland, because of its extremely large agrarian population, will continue to be one of the most important sources for worker migration within Europe.
