Journal of Music Archaeology, Volume 3
A large part of the third issue is dedicated to a neglected find of Greek-style wind instruments (auloi) from the Oxus temple in ancient Bactria, modern Tajikistan, discussing the excavation and context of the various stray parts, documenting each of them with relevant measurements, and trying to piece them together to find out about the music they may have played. Other contributions take us from the unparalleled sound world of pre-Columbian America to ancient African dance scenes and to fifteen-hundred years of one-stringed zither in Sri Lanka.
