This is a publication on the composer Hans Rott, who died young in a lunatic asylum. He was Anton Bruckners pupil and Gustav Mahlers fellow student. Bruckner stated that Rott was ”one of the most outstanding hopes“ and Mahler himself called him ”the founder of the New Symphony“. This work is based on a huge, and hitherto unexamined part of the estate of the historian Maja Loehr.
Loehr was the daughter of one of Rott´s and Mahler´s closest friends, the archaeologist Friedrich Loewy/Loehr, who collected Rott´s manuscripts (music, documents, etc.)and letters from Rott and his friends. In 1949 she wrote Rott´s biography, but the work remained unpublished and for a long time was considered lost. It is published in this book for the first time.
