Egon Wellesz

Egon Wellesz
Komponist, Byzantinist, Musikwissenschaftler. Katalog
1. Auflage, 2000
Catalogue of an exhibition, which took place in Vienna, in the central building of the Austrian Academy of Sciences from March 30 until May 5, 2000. Egon Wellesz (1885-1974) was born in Vienna, he lived in his native town and taught as Professor of Vienna University until he was expelled by the Nazi in 1938. After his emigration to England he found a refuge at Oxford University, where he stayed until the end of his life. The present catalogue is a companion through the exhibition in documenting the highlights of his life as a gifted composer and a creative and innovative scholar of musicology (esp. history of byzantine music and hymnography). Beyond its function as catalogue the present publication, thanks to its many illustrations (many of them first published in this place) and its rich documentation (discography, bibliographies) serves as a sound base for further research in the field of musicology and Egon Wellesz as a composer.
