Die Wanderungen der Kelten in der antiken literarischen Überlieferung

Die Wanderungen der Kelten in der antiken literarischen Überlieferung
1. Auflage, 2002
The book examines the Celtic migrations in antiquity before the Roman conquest of the Celtic world as presented by ancient literary sources. It does not attempt to give a full reconstruction of Celtic movements, which could only be achieved by addionally considering the entire archaeological and linguistic evidence, but offers a comparative analysis of the relevant information provided by Greek and Latin authors from the classical age to late antiquity. As the collective presentation of the rather dispersed material is an essential requirement, the texts are given in full with German translation and comment on their perception in modern ?Quellenkunde?, their background in ancient literature and, most of all, their value for our comprehension of migration phenomena in ancient celticity. The testimonia are set out in their historical context and arranged in chapters according to geographic coherence. Altogether, 77 texts by 39 writers are collected and analyzed in this way.
