1. Auflage, 2001
In the history of mathematics, a field certainly not lacking in details of cultural history and general human interest, the discovery of the algebraic solution to the cubic equation in the first half of the 16th century in Italy is without doubt one of the most colourful chapters. The author presents a translation of the texts in the “QUESITI ET INVENTIONI DIVERSE” published in 1546 in Venice by Nicolo Tartaglia, Geronimo Cardano’s rival, which dealt with the cubic equation.
