Die Hymnen des Theoktistos Studites auf Athanasios I. von Konstantinopel

Die Hymnen des Theoktistos Studites auf Athanasios I. von Konstantinopel
Einleitung, Edition, Kommentar
1. Auflage, 2008
Hymns represent an important part of the Byzantine hagiographic literature and the Byzantine cult of saints. In the Late Byzantine era, hymns for every day of the liturgical year already existed for the most important saints´ feasts, as preserved in the Menaia. Nonetheless, new hymns were still composed for both new and old saints, and these compositions were part of the literary production of the Late Byzantine era. This has been little examined, however, until now. The present study provides an analysis and a critical edition of the eleven liturgical canons (Codex Chalk. S. Trin. 64) composed by Theoktistos Studites about his elder contemporary, the famous yet notorious Patriarch Athanasios I of Constantinople (1289–1293 and 1303–1309).
