For reasons as yet unknown, a number of medieval manuscripts that were originally part of the collection of the Vienna University Library were moved to the library of the Benedictine abbey of Seitenstetten (Lower Austria), probably during the abbacy of the bibliophilic abbot Dominik Gußmann (1747–1777). As can be seen by the University library’s mark, today 48 of these manuscripts are still in the abbey’s library. These volumes, dating from the 10th to the 16th century, are very important sources for the medieval history of the Alma Mater Rudolphina as well as Austria’s intellectual history in general.
