This volume comprises 1728 ancient Roman coins found in the district of Wels in Upper Austria. A detailed numismatic analysis is provided in addition to the usual listing of coins. The number of coins is considered, as well as their overall ancient value. In addition statements are made on the relation of denominations to each other, on the influence of mints in late antiquity, and, for the first time, on their preservation.
Great effort is taken to visualize and explain all the results for the benefit of the reader. Another goal is to permit a more effective comparison of evidence in the future. All in all, the numismatic chapter is now added to the ancient history of Ovilavis/Wels, which is summarized in archeological terms by Dr. Renate Miglbauer, head of the Municipal Museum.
