Similarly to the volumes already published, the present volume contains a detailed explanation of the relevant building-age plans and a key to all plan entries. The description of the towns gives information about the topographical position, traffic connections and relationship to superordinate centers, the area of the total local district, population and number of buildings in the town and the local district as a whole, derivation of the topographical name, ground plan of the town and its development, forms of squares, town defenses, external and internal appearance of the town, major individual buildings and small monuments. It also contains references to the histories of the towns and to their current position in the central administrative system. Overview maps of the relevant federal provinces contain the entries for all the towns, graphically broken down according to their administrative significance (provincial capital, town with its own charta, district capital, town without superordinate functions, incorporated town). A comprehensive bibliography on the relevant federal provinces and the towns dealt with in the volume refers to more extensive literature in the fields of cultural and regional studies, regional and municipal history, art history, architecture.
