Tom J.F.Tillemans is Professor emeritus of Buddhist Studies at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Born in 1950 in the Netherlands, he initially studied in Canada, and then in India, Switzerland, and Japan. Buddhist logic and epistemology, Madhyamaka philosophy, linguistics, and comparative philosophy have been his longterm research interests. He has been at various times editor in chief of the Journal of the International Association of Buddhist Studies, of the series Studies in Indian and Tibetan Buddhism (Wisdom Publications), and of the 84000 project (www.84000.co), tasked with translating the scriptures of the Tibetan Buddhist canon. He lives on Gabriola Island, off the west coast of Canada.
