Barbara C. Steininger
is Professor at the University of Graz and Vice-Director of the Institute for European Tort Law and of ECTIL
Barbara C. Steininger studied law and Dutch in Vienna and Leiden, obtaining Master degrees from the University of Vienna in both areas as well as a doctoral degree in law from the same university.
She worked as a researcher at the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law, the Institute for European Tort Law, the University of Geneva and the University of Graz.
For her habilitation thesis, she was awarded the Kardinal-Innitzer-Förderungspreis, the VKB-Wissenschaftspreis and the Alois Mock-Wissenschaftspreis.
Since October 2025, Barbara C. Steininger has held a chair at the Institute for Civil Law at the University of Graz. She is also the Director of the Centre of European Private Law of that University, Vice-Director of ECTIL and Vice-Director of ETL (with a brief intermezzo of serving as Acting Director of ETL for four months in 2025).
