Hristo Popov
is Director of the National Archaeological Institute and Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
He studied History in Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; in NAIM he received his doctoral degree in 2001. In 1999 he held a PhD student research fellowship at Institut für Klassische Archäologie, Universität Wien, and in 2003–2004 a Research fellowship of archaeometallurgy at the Seminar für Ur- und Frühgeschichte, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, Münster. In 2012 he received his habilitation for Thracian archaeology in NAIM-BAS. His research is focused on the cultural contacts during the LBA and EIA, settlement archaeology and urbanization processes during the Iron Age, ancient mining and metalworking from the LBA to the Early Roman Age. He is directing excavations (among them – the LBA goldmine and settlement Ada Tepe and many others) and many cooperation projects, involving interdisciplinary activities and specialists.
