Birgit Lodes
is Professor for Historical Musicology at the University of Vienna
Birgit Lodes studied musicology, performance (piano and cello), psychology and pedagogy at the University and Musikhochschule in Munich, UCLA, and Harvard University, receiving funding from various prestigious bodies, including the Maximilianeum Foundation, the DAAD and the Bavarian Habilitationsförderpreis. She received her doctorate in 1995, and Habilitation in 2002. Lodes worked as an assistant professor and a guest professor at the Universities of Munich, Erlangen-Nuremberg, and Vienna. Since 2005, she has been Professor of Historical Musicology at the University of Vienna, where she currently serves as Head of Department. She is a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a member of the Academia Europaea. Her research focuses on music and musical life around the year 1500/1600 and the music of the Viennese Classical Period.
