Michael Kerschner
is Senior Research Associate at the Austrian Archaeological Institute and Byvanck Fellow at Leiden University
Michael Kerschner studied Classical Archaeology, Art History and Ancient History at the Universities of Salzburg and Bochum. From 2000 to 2002 he was Assistant Professor at the University of Münster. Since 2002 he has been Senior Research Associate at the Austrian Archaeological Institute and since 2023 also Byvanck Fellow in Greek Art and Archaeology at Leiden University. He has taught at the universities of Münster, Vienna, Leiden and Salzburg, where he habilitated in 2009. He has led research projects at Ephesus, Miletus, Teos and Lousoi. His focus is on the archaeology of the Aegean region and western Anatolia in the 1st millennium BC and on the archaeology of ancient Mediterranean religions.
