Mario Gavranović
is Deputy Head of the Department for Prehistory and Western Asian/Northeast African Archaeology, Austrian Archaeological Institute
Mario Gavranović studied Prehistoric Archaeology, Ethnology and Eastern European History at the Free University in Berlin (1997–2004). Between 2004 and 2005, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Prehistoric Archaeology at the Free University of Berlin. In 2015, he was awarded the JESH Programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and in 2015, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship. Since February 2018, he has been the Deputy Director of the Department for Prehistory & Western Asian/Northeast African Archaeology and Head of the research group "Urnfield Culture Networks" at the Austrian Archaeological Institute. His research focuses on the Bronze and Iron Ages of central and southeastern Europe, with a focus on metallurgy, burial practices and resource strategies. He is the principal investigator in several FWF-funded projects.
