Kostas Gallis
is former Professor of the Democritus University of Thrace and former director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Larissa
Kostas Gallis studied archaeology at the University of Athens. He obtained his Ph.D. in prehistory at the University of Athens. From 1980 till 1995 he was director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Larissa (Ministry of Culture and Sports, Greece) and, in this function, excavator of the Neolithic tell settlement and the Late Neolithic cemetery of Platia Magoula Zarkou. From 1993 till 1994 he held the Schliemann Stipendium for post-doc research in Bonn and Heidelberg. From 1995 till 2005 he was professor of prehistoric archaeology in the Faculty of History and Ethnology of the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. He is a member of the Greek Archaeological Society, the German Archaeological Institute and the Prehistoric Society (London) as well as a fellow of St. John’s College, Cambridge and of the Indiana University (USA).
