Wolfgang U. Dressler, born in Vienna in 1939, studied linguistics and classical philology in Vienna, Rome and Paris, became in Vienna Dr. phil. in 1964, Docent in 1968, after teaching at UCLA and Ohio State University, was Professor of linguistics at Vienna University from 1971 until 2008, chairman of its Department of Linguistics since 1979, full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 1992, Researcher at its Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage since 2016 (after having headed two of its forerunners), coordinator of the international Crosslinguistic Project on Pre- and Protomorphology in Language Acquisition, Head of the University Working Group “Comparative Psycholinguistics”, author of more than 600 publications, which focused lately on morphology, language acquisition and processing, phonotactics and morphonotactics, morphopragmatics, poetic license.
