Michael Brandl
is Coordinator of the Lithic Lab at the Austrian Archaeological Institute at the Austrian Academy of Sciences
Michael Brandl received his PhD in Prehistoric Archaeology at the University of Vienna with a focus on Natural Sciences for rock analyses. He is employed at the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, where he currently acts as the coordinator of the Lithic Lab. Michael Brandl is mainly focused on the field of archaeometry and provenance analyses of lithic materials to answer socio-economic questions relating to prehistoric societies. In the course of his research in this field at the ÖAW, he developed innovative methods and scientific approaches, which are internationally established in the meanwhile as demonstrated by the publication record. Most prominently, he developed and successfully employed the so-called Multi Layered Chert Sourcing Approach (MLA) in various international research projects.
