The Commission for the History and Philosophy of Science of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Austrian Academy of Sciences Publishing House invite you to the presentation of a new book that uses the example of the Lesky couple to shed light on academic careers in networks of political systems of the 20th century.
The classical philologist Albin Lesky and the physician and medical historian Erna Lesky, née Klingenstein, embodied the successful "dual-career couple" internationally. Their academic careers were influenced by various political systems, structures and functioning. To what extent were they, representatives of their generation, willing to use individual room for manoeuvring to achieve success in the scientific community, and how far did they transgress the ethical boundaries of science to gain influence and power?
