is former Department Head and Deputy Director of the Space Research Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
Helmut O. Rucker, born 1948 in Piber, Austria, studied mathematics, physics, and chemistry at Karl-Franzens-University Graz, defended his PhD thesis in Geophysics in 1974 and joined the Space Research Institute, Austrian Academy of Sciences (AAS). In 1982/83 he was Research Associate at NASA/GSFC (Greenbelt, MD), further scientific stays at Department of Physics and Astronomy (Univ. of Iowa), Observatoire de Paris-Meudon, Astrophysical Inst. Potsdam (Germany). Habilitation in 1988 and appointment as Univ. Prof. in 1997 at KF-Univ. Graz. 2001–2012 head of post-graduate University Course "Space Sciences", 2010–2013 deputy director of the Space Research Institute and 2013–2019 head of the Commission for Astronomy. Co-investigator on 5 space missions (radio experiment). Since 2005 Corresponding Member of AAS, 2013 Dr.h.c. of Inst. of Radio Astronomy of National Academy of Sciences, Ukraine.
