Antonio Panaino, born in 1961, is professor of Iranian Studies with special interests for philology, history of religions in Pre-Islamic Iran and history of ancient sciences (in particular astronomy, astral lore and astrology). During his career, he has analysed various aspects of the Mazdean mythology and its theological tradition with increasing attention for the intercultural phenomena especially those occurring between Byzantium and Sasanian Iran, so dealing also with different matters such as ancient diplomacy, sacred royal ideology, and cultural interferences or mutual influences between East and West. He has published a number of monographic works (also in the Series of the Austrian Academy of Sciences), and many articles in the most prominent Academic periodical of this area of reserach.
