Die Pañcaskandhakavibhāṣā wurde von dem indischen Yogacara-Gelehrten Sthiramati (6.J.) verfasst und ist ein ausführlicher Kommentar zu Vasubandhus Pañcaskandha, einer kurzen Analyse der fünf Persönlichkeitskonstitueten (skandha). Der Text war bis jetzt nur in seiner tibetischen Übersetzung zugänglich und wird in den hier vorliegenden zwei Bänden zum ersten Mal im Sanskritoriginal präsentiert. Als eines der wenigen Abhidharma-Werke der Yogacara-Schule, die uns in Sanskrit vorliegen, stellt der Text eine wichtige Quelle für das technische Vokabular dieser Tradition dar und bietet wertvolle Informationen zum buddhistischen Verständnis von der Beschaffenheit des Menschen sowie zur Weiterentwicklung des kanonischen Konzeptes der fünf Perönlichkeitskonstituenten, der zwölf Grundlagen (ayatana) und der achtzehn Elemente (dhatu). Ziel der vorliegenden Studie ist es deshalb, mit der kritischen und der diplomatischen Edition des Textes eine solide Ausgangsbasis für weitere Untersuchungen zu diesen Themn zu schaffen. Der erste Band bietet eine kritische Edition, die auf der in der Bibliothek des China Tibetology Research Center (Peking) aufbewahrten Kopie eines codex unicus basiert, der seinerseits in Lhasa verwahrt wird. Zusätzlich sind die tibetische Übersetzung der Pañcaskandhakavibhasa sowie weitere verwandte Werke hinzugezogen worden. 

Der kritischen Edition sind eine Einführung in das Thema der fünf Persönlichkeitskonstituenten sowie eine deskriptive Analyse der Pañcaskandhakavibhasa vorangestellt. Der zweite Band bietet einige Informationen zum Manuskript sowie eine diplomatische Edition des Textes. Sthiramati`s Pañcaskandhakavibhāṣā is an extensive 6th century Yogācārā commentary on Vasunbahdu´s Pañcaskandhaka, a short analysis of the five constituents of the person (skandha). The text was available until now only through its Tibetan translation and is presented in these two volumes in its Sanskrit original for the first time. As one of the few Abhiddharmic works of the Yogācārā school known to be extant in Sanskrit, the text is a significant source for the technical terminology of this tradition, providing valuable information on the Buddhist analysis of human nature and on the process of reshaping the canonical concept of the five constituents, twelve bases (āyatana) and eighteen elements (dhātu). The present study therefore aims at establishing the basis of future work on these topics by offering critical and diplomatic editions of the text. The first volume includes a critical edition based on a photocopy kept in the library of the China Tibetology Research Center (Beijing) of  a codex unicus preseverd in Lhasa. In addition the Tibetan translation of the text and various related works have been consulted. The critical edition is preceded by an introduction to the concept of the five constituents and by a descriptive analysis of Sthiramati`s commentary. The second volume offers some information about the manuscript and a diplomatic edition of the text.
