Grigor Boykov
is Assistant Professor at the Institute for East European History at the University of Vienna
Grigor Boykov earned his Ph.D. in Ottoman history from Bilkent University, Ankara, in 2013. He taught at the University of Sofia and the Central European University in Budapest, and was formerly a researcher at the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He was a team member of the ERC-CoG OTTOCONFESSION (2015–2016) and ERC-StG UrbanOccupationsOETR (2017–2018) projects. In 2019, he received the MSCA Fellowship for his POPGEO_BG project. Currently, Boykov is an affiliated researcher in the ERC-StG ORTHPOL project and leads the project "Settlement Network, Road Infrastructure, and Population in Bulgaria during the Ottoman Period: A Historical and Archaeological Spatial Analysis." His publications focus on the history of the Balkans under Ottoman rule, integrating established historical approaches with methods from Digital and Spatial Humanities.
