Edeltraud Aspöck is a mortuary- and digital archaeologist with a research focus on the early Medieval period. She was awarded a PhD from the University of Reading, UK in 2009 for her thesis titled ‘The relativity of normality. An archaeological and anthropological study of deviant burial and different treatments at death’. Her post-doctoral career has been characterised by the development of multiple period- and methodological specialisms. This includes research on mortuary taphonomy, in particular the taphonomy of reopened inhumation graves; since 2013 she is leading OeAW activities in the EU infrastructure projects ARIADNE and ARIADNEplus and has been scientific coordinator of several digital archaeology projects; since 02/2019 she is a senior researcher at the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities.
