Sammlung Eduard Glaser

The Eduard Glaser Series (SEG) is a book format for the publication of archaeological, epigraphic, historical, linguistic, social anthropological and history of research studies on South Arabia, from prehistory through antiquity and the Islamic period to the present. The SEG is one of the oldest existing publication series of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in the entire field of the humanities. It was initiated in 1912 by David Heinrich Müller and Nikolaus Rhodokanakis and named after Eduard Glaser (1855‒1908), an epigrapher, ethnographer, historian and archaeologist famous to this day. He carried out several pioneering research visits to Southwest Arabia. They yielded vast amounts of materials, which continue to inspire academic research to this day. With its well-known authors, the series reflects the diversity of the Austrian and Central European research tradition in South Arabia. The SEG hence makes a substantial contribution to the study and preservation of South Arabia’s unique history and cultural heritage, which today faces unprecedented destruction.
