Planet Austria

The national and international research programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences has inspired the book project Planet Austria: Stein – Wasser – Leben (Planet Austria: Stones – Water – Life). The aim of this extensive volume is to present the broad spectrum of research being done at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in the fields of Alpine studies, geology, hydrology, and environmental and climate studies. In addition to textual descriptions, the volume also includes high-quality reproductions of photographs taken by one of the most famous photographers in Austria, Lois Lammerhuber, who has also served as editor (see www.edition.lammerhuber.at). About thirty major projects, both current and past, have been chosen to illustrate the breadth and depth of research being conducted at the Academy to a wider audience. Since many of the projects being conducted at the Academy are tied to larger university research projects, this volume also presents a great deal of the research being done at the university level.
