Volume VI of the historical-critical edition of Ernst Freiherrn von Feuchtersleben’s (1806–1849) writings assembles the complete letters, autobiographical writings and diary notes from 1824 to 1849. The 250 letters, largely unpublished, and the autobiographical writings, including a diary of the 1848 Revolution in Vienna (Vol. VI,1) are explained in an extensive commentary (Vol. VI,2), which gives a detailed insight into the ‘Vormärz’ epoch in Austria, reflecting in particular the history of literature, medicine and the education system. Alongside the documentation and commentaries on the letters, the volume also supplies potted biographies of all Feuchtersleben’s correspondents. The volume is rounded off with an extensive index of persons.
